Accounting and Finance Jobs in Singapore
How accounting and finance careers work in Singapore’s regional hub: audit, tax, FP&A, banking, and recognised qualifications.
How accounting and finance hiring actually works in Singapore
Singapore is a regional centre for banks, fund managers, insurers, corporate treasuries, and professional-services firms. That mix creates a steady flow of accounting and finance vacancies, but it does not create one single “finance salary” or one standard career path. Audit, tax, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and banking compliance hire for different evidence, different working calendars, and different licensing or professional-qualification expectations.
This guide is for people who want a practical map: which role families exist, how CA (Singapore) and ACCA are used in hiring conversations, how to search without wasting applications, and which official pay and Work Pass rules you should re-check before you accept an offer. It does not invent role-by-role salary tables or bonus multiples. Where a figure is official Ministry of Manpower (MOM) policy, it is labelled as policy. Where a figure is a labour-market median, it is labelled as a median, not as an offer.
Start with live vacancies on accounting and finance industry jobs, then widen to jobs in Singapore and the full jobs board if you are open to neighbouring functions such as operations, data, or internal audit in a non-bank employer.
Four role families that dominate Singapore finance hiring
Most advertised roles sit in one of four clusters. The job title on a portal is often broader than the work. Read the first eight to ten bullets of the description and ask which cluster the employer actually needs.
Audit: external, internal, and the year-end calendar
External audit in Singapore is still built around statutory financial-statement work for companies incorporated here and for regional reporting packs. Large professional-services firms and mid-tier practices hire graduates and experienced seniors for fieldwork, sampling, control testing, and manager review. The calendar is not theoretical. Year-end and listing-related deadlines drive long stretches of client-site or hybrid fieldwork, then a quieter period used for training, secondments, or advisory projects.
Internal audit sits inside banks, government-linked companies, healthcare clusters, and large corporates. The work is closer to risk, process design, and follow-up with business owners than to signing a statutory opinion. Employers often want someone who has already closed a few audit cycles and can write findings that a non-accountant can act on.
If you are moving from external audit into industry, hiring managers usually look for three things you can prove on a Singapore resume: the size and complexity of entities you have audited, the standards you have applied, and one or two improvements you made that reduced rework. “Busy season resilience” is not evidence. A shorter close, a cleaner lead schedule, or a control that stopped a recurring adjustment is evidence.
Tax: corporate tax, GST, and specialist files
Tax hiring in Singapore splits quickly. Corporate tax compliance and tax accounting sit close to finance teams. Goods and Services Tax (GST) work sits close to operations, invoicing, and systems. Transfer pricing, incentives, and cross-border structuring sit closer to advisory. Private-client and wealth-related tax work exists, but it is a smaller advertised pool and often moves through specialist firms rather than general job boards.
What changes between junior and mid-level tax roles is not a mysterious “commercial mindset”. It is whether you can explain a position in writing, keep a file that another reviewer can follow, and flag when a transaction needs a specialist. Employers in Singapore also care whether you have handled IRAS correspondence, estimated chargeable income, or GST error corrections. If you have, put the type of filing and the outcome in one line. Do not invent a percentage saving if you cannot point to the computation.
FP&A: the industry move many auditors want
FP&A is the most common destination for accountants who want to leave public practice without becoming a financial-controller immediately. The work is budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, management reporting, and partnering with a business unit. In Singapore regional headquarters, the same person may also consolidate numbers from several countries and explain them to a visiting leadership team.
Hiring managers in FP&A do not only ask whether you can use Excel or a planning tool. They ask whether you can turn a variance into a decision. Prepare two short examples: one where a forecast was wrong and you repaired the driver, and one where you told a budget owner something they did not want to hear. That is the work. If you are still in audit, a secondment to a finance function or a project on a data extraction is more useful than another generic “stakeholder management” line.
Many FP&A seats are full-time and either on-site in the central business district or hybrid. Fully remote finance roles exist, but they are less common than hybrid postings. Search remote jobs if location flexibility is essential, and treat “remote” in the advert as a claim to confirm in the interview, not as a contractual right.
Banking and compliance: credit, operations, risk, and AML
Banks, payment firms, and capital-markets employers hire accountants into financial reporting, product control, and regulatory reporting. They also hire non-accountants into anti-money-laundering (AML), know-your-customer (KYC), and conduct roles. The common thread is documentation quality and the ability to work inside a regulated process. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) sets the regulatory context; you should read role adverts against that context rather than against a general “banking lifestyle” story.
Compliance vacancies often look interchangeable on a portal. They are not. Transaction monitoring is not the same as sanctions screening, and neither is the same as regulatory-change project work. If you are switching from audit, map your evidence to the actual control: sample testing, exception handling, or writing a finding that survived challenge. If you are already in a bank, name the system, the regulation, and the volume you handled only if you can discuss them without breaching confidentiality.
For a wider view of how pay conversations should be framed across industries, read the Singapore salary guide by industry. For how high-pay claims are often overstated, see highest paying jobs in Singapore.
CA (Singapore) and ACCA: what they mean in a hiring file
Two professional routes appear constantly in Singapore finance adverts: Chartered Accountant of Singapore, awarded through the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification. Treat both as signals of technical training and exam discipline. Do not treat either as an official salary multiplier. Employers decide pay against the role, the candidate’s evidence, and their own bands.
CA (Singapore) is the local professional designation. ISCA sets the pathway, practical-experience expectations, and membership rules. If you are deciding whether to start or complete the pathway, read the current requirements on the ISCA website rather than relying on a forum summary. Pathways and exemptions change, and a blog post cannot replace the institute’s own rules.
ACCA is a widely recognised professional accounting qualification. Many Singapore employers treat it as evidence that you can handle financial reporting, audit, or tax technical work, especially if you also have local filing or industry experience. Some people later pursue CA (Singapore) after ACCA. Whether that is available to you, and what additional modules or experience ISCA requires, is a question for ISCA, not for a job board.
A practical way to use these qualifications in applications:
- State the designation and your status clearly: member, affiliate, or exam-passed and completing experience.
- Name the papers or domains that match the job, not the entire syllabus.
- Put local work first if the role is Singapore statutory reporting, GST, or IRAS correspondence.
- Do not write that a designation “guarantees” a salary band. It does not.
Public-accountancy registration with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) is a separate legal status from being a CA (Singapore) member. If a role requires a public accountant to sign statutory reports, the employer should say so. If the advert is silent, ask. Do not assume membership and signing rights are the same thing.
What to put on a Singapore finance resume, and what to leave off
Finance hiring managers in Singapore read for close quality, systems, and judgement. They do not need a photograph, your race, your religion, your marital status, or your family plans. The Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP) tells employers to select on merit and not to request those fields on application forms. You should not volunteer them to “look complete”. Follow the same merit rule when you build your document in the resume tool and when you read how to write a Singapore resume that gets interviews.
A finance-ready resume in this market usually includes:
- A short profile that names the function you want next, not a personality paragraph.
- Employer, entity types, and the reporting framework you actually used.
- Systems: the general ledger, consolidation tool, tax engine, or bank platform, named accurately.
- Two or three quantified outcomes you can defend in an interview, such as days-to-close or error rates you personally influenced.
- Professional status: CA (Singapore), ACCA, or other designations, with dates.
Leave off decorative skill bars, an invented “expected bonus”, and any claim you cannot walk through on a whiteboard. If you are a fresh graduate, use fresher jobs in Singapore and the graduate-focused advice in jobs in Singapore for fresh graduates rather than stretching a one-month internship into a controllership story.
How to search this week without spraying applications
Singapore finance hiring still runs through a small set of channels. Use them in a deliberate order rather than opening six tabs and hoping.
- Build a saved search on MyCareersFuture for the exact function words you can defend: “external audit”, “GST”, “FP&A”, “AML”, “product control”. The portal is also where many employers advertise before they file an Employment Pass or S Pass application under the Fair Consideration Framework.
- Filter accounting and finance roles on JobVacancySG by employment type and work arrangement so you are not applying to contract close-support when you want a permanent FP&A seat.
- Identify ten employers you would actually join: a bank, a regional headquarters, a mid-tier firm, an insurer, a healthcare finance team. Follow their career pages and check company pages.
- If you want agency support, use licensed recruiters and keep one clean CV version. Do not let five agencies rewrite your salary history into conflicting numbers.
- Use Workforce Singapore programmes if you are a career switcher or returning to work, and use SkillsFuture to close a specific gap such as data analysis for FP&A or a regulatory-reporting course, not to collect unrelated certificates.
Track applications in your dashboard so you can see which cluster is converting to conversations. If audit applications are converting and FP&A applications are not, the issue is usually evidence, not luck. Add one industry project to the resume or target hybrid “finance analyst / senior associate” titles that still value audit training.
Interviews in finance: what each round is for
A typical process has a recruiter or HR screen, a hiring-manager conversation, and sometimes a panel with a business partner or a technical reviewer. Prepare for that sequence using how to prepare for a job interview in Singapore. In finance, add a technical layer that other functions may skip.
For audit, be ready to walk through a risk assessment, a sample you chose, and a disagreement you had with a client or a reviewer. For tax, bring a position you researched and how you documented it. For FP&A, bring a forecast you rebuilt and the driver that mattered. For compliance, bring an escalation you made and how you wrote the narrative.
Use STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) so the panel can follow the story, but keep the Result in business language: a filing went out on time, a restatement was avoided, a control gap was closed. Do not end every story with “the team was happy”.
Employers should not ask about your race, religion, or family plans. If a question drifts there, you can steer back to the work. TAFEP’s Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices are the reference, not a social-media list of “trick questions”.
Pay, bonuses, and official figures you can actually quote
People searching for accounting and finance jobs in Singapore are often shown unofficial “average package” graphics. Treat those as marketing unless the author cites an official source you can open.
Two official labour-market figures are useful as context and useless as an offer. MOM’s Labour Force in Singapore 2025 reported that the median gross monthly income of full-time employed residents was $5,775, and that the median for degree holders was $9,038. Those numbers cover the whole resident workforce, not finance teams, and they are not a job-offer number. Read the MOM Labour Force 2025 findings if you want the definitions. SingStat’s 2025 median household market income of $12,446 is a household figure, not individual pay. Do not divide it by household size and call the result “what finance pays”.
Variable bonuses exist in many banks and professional-services firms. The multiple, if any, is a contractual and discretionary matter between you and the employer. This article will not invent “typical months of bonus” and present them as official. When you receive an offer, ask:
- What is the fixed monthly salary, stated in Singapore dollars?
- Which allowances are guaranteed, and which are not?
- Is there a bonus plan, what is the performance year, and is any portion guaranteed in writing?
- When is the first review, and is the role in scope for that cycle?
If you need a Work Pass, the relevant number for MOM is the fixed monthly salary used in the application, not a hoped-for bonus. That is why you should read the next section before you negotiate a headline package that is mostly variable.
Check the official source. Labour-force medians and Work Pass qualifying salaries change. Re-read MOM and SingStat pages when you compare offers, and do not treat a recruiter’s verbal bonus range as a government figure.
Work Passes for finance professionals: financial services has a higher Employment Pass floor
Citizens and permanent residents do not need a Work Pass. Foreign professionals who need an Employment Pass (EP) must meet MOM’s qualifying salary, which is age-based and benchmarked to the top one-third of local PMET salaries. For most sectors, the current floor for new applications before 1 January 2027 is $5,600 at age 23 or below, rising to $10,700 at age 45 and above. Financial services is higher: from $6,200 at age 23 or below up to $11,800 at age 45 and above. Those floors are MOM policy, not JobVacancySG estimates.
From 1 January 2027, new EP applications use higher floors again: $6,000 to $11,500 in most sectors, and $6,600 to $12,700 in financial services. Unless exempt, candidates also need 40 points under COMPASS. A fixed monthly salary of $22,500 or more is one of the stated exemptions from COMPASS. Employers generally must advertise the role on MyCareersFuture for 14 consecutive days before filing an EP or S Pass application, unless an exemption applies, and they should not make a job offer during that advertising window.
If you are targeting banks, insurers, or other financial-services employers on an EP, do not anchor your expectation to the general-sector $5,600 floor. The financial-services floor is $6,200 for the youngest band under current rules, and it rises with age. The detailed age table, COMPASS criteria, and 2027 changes belong in the dedicated Employment Pass jobs in Singapore article. Mid-level associate and technician roles may be a better fit for the S Pass route; that pass has its own floors, a $650 monthly levy, and a quota.
Check the official source. Quote these floors as MOM policy and re-check the Employment Pass eligibility page before you accept an offer or tell a family member that a salary “will definitely get an EP”. Rules change.
Employers who hire on work passes also have to follow the Fair Consideration Framework. That is an employer duty. As a candidate, you should still apply on merit and keep your documents clean. You do not need to put nationality on a resume to “help the EP process”. The employer’s HR and work-pass team will ask for the documents they need at the right stage.
Skills that move the needle inside each cluster
Generic “Excel, PowerPoint, teamwork” lists do not separate candidates in Raffles Place. Pick skills that match the cluster and that you can demonstrate in a file or a walkthrough.
Audit and accounting operations
- Financial reporting standards you have actually applied, named precisely.
- Sampling, journal-entry testing, and how you documented exceptions.
- Data extraction from a general ledger rather than only from a client-prepared schedule.
- Clear written findings that a non-auditor can implement.
Tax
- Corporate tax computations and estimated chargeable income, if that was your work.
- GST coding, input-tax claims, and error-correction experience.
- Transfer-pricing documentation support, if you truly did more than format a file.
- The ability to write a short position note with sources.
FP&A and commercial finance
- Driver-based forecasts, not only last-year-plus-a-percentage.
- A planning or consolidation tool you can navigate without a script.
- Partnering: one example where you changed a business decision with a number.
- Enough data skill to clean a download; a SkillsFuture course helps only if you use it on a real file.
Banking, risk, and compliance
- The specific control or regulation, not “familiar with MAS”.
- Case narrative writing and escalation judgement.
- Volume and ageing of alerts or reconciliations you personally owned.
- Change-the-bank project work if you have it, kept separate from run-the-bank work.

A four-week plan you can actually finish
Use one month to turn a vague “I want finance in Singapore” goal into a shortlist and two interview-ready stories.
Week 1. Choose one primary cluster and one backup. Rewrite the top half of your resume for that pair. Remove personal fields that TAFEP tells employers not to request. Save two searches on MyCareersFuture and one on JobVacancySG. Read ISCA’s current membership information if a designation is part of your plan.
Week 2. Apply to eight roles you can defend, not twenty you cannot. For each application, write three bullets that match the advert’s first requirements. If a role needs GST and you have never touched GST, skip it and spend the time on a closer match. Book one conversation with a licensed recruiter only after your CV is stable.
Week 3. Build two STAR stories and one technical walkthrough. Practise them aloud. Prepare your salary questions around fixed monthly pay. If you need an EP in financial services, read MOM’s current age-based floor so you do not under-ask relative to policy. Rehearse a short answer on why you want this employer, not “Singapore is a hub”.
Week 4. Follow up on applications that have gone quiet for a reasonable period. Review which adverts produced replies. Add one SkillsFuture or on-the-job artefact that fills the biggest gap. If interviews have started, send a brief thank-you that restates one piece of evidence, as described in the interview guide. Do not attach a new unofficial salary survey.
Contract, internship, and part-time routes into finance
Not every useful seat is a permanent full-time role. Year-end support, implementation projects, and parental-cover contracts can put Singapore entity experience on your file. Search contract jobs and be precise about dates and deliverables on the resume afterwards. Internships remain a standard graduate route; see internship jobs and treat the internship as a portfolio of workpapers, not as a networking slogan.
Part-time finance roles exist in bookkeeping, accounts-payable, and some analyst seats. Read part-time jobs in Singapore and confirm Employment Act coverage and Work Pass restrictions before you assume you can stack two jobs. Work Pass holders generally cannot treat extra part-time work as a casual side activity.
What employers should do when they hire finance talent
If you are hiring rather than applying, the rules are not a shortcut around merit. Advertise on MyCareersFuture when FCF requires it, consider local candidates fairly, and do not screen by nationality, age, race, or photograph. Keep interview questions on the work: a close, a tax file, a forecast, a compliance case. The fuller employer playbook is in how employers can hire the right talent in Singapore.
Work Pass cost is not only the headline salary. For S Pass roles there is a $650 monthly levy under current MOM rules, plus internal process time. For EP roles there is COMPASS, advertising, and the age-based qualifying salary, which is higher in financial services. Budget the whole cost before you promise a candidate a start date.
Finance still has a CBD, and a profile that matches the file
Most controllership, markets, and regional-HQ seats sit in the Downtown Core or a short walk from Raffles Place MRT. Shared-service and operations finance can appear in Tampines, Tampines MRT, or Bedok MRT. Fintech product roles sometimes sit in one-north. Browse banking and finance jobs and jobs by skill for modelling or ERP tools.
Keep CA/ACCA status on the profile and the resume, then publish a Career Passport for agency submissions via recruiters. Register so the dashboard holds one pipeline.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need CA (Singapore) or ACCA to get an accounting job in Singapore?
No single designation is a legal requirement for every accounting job. Many audit, tax, and reporting roles ask for a recognised professional qualification or progress towards one because it is evidence of technical training. Some industry FP&A and banking operations roles hire strong graduates or career switchers without membership. Check the job advert and, if a designation is part of your plan, confirm the current pathway on the ISCA site rather than assuming a forum’s conversion story is still accurate.
Is the Employment Pass salary floor higher for banking and other financial-services roles?
Yes, under current MOM policy. Financial-services EP qualifying salaries start at $6,200 for candidates aged 23 or below and rise with age to $11,800 at age 45 and above, for new applications before 1 January 2027. Most other sectors start at $5,600 and rise to $10,700. These are qualifying floors, not recommended offer bands, and they will rise again for new applications from 1 January 2027. Re-check MOM before you treat any number as current.
Can I use unofficial bonus multiples when I negotiate a finance offer?
You can ask what the employer’s own bonus plan is. You should not treat a blog’s “typical six-month bonus” as an official statistic. This site does not publish invented bonus multiples. Ask for the fixed monthly salary in writing, what is guaranteed, and how variable pay has been described in the offer letter. For Work Pass applications, MOM looks at fixed monthly salary, not a hoped-for bonus.
Should I put a photo, nationality, or age on my finance resume?
No. TAFEP expects employers to select on merit and not to request photographs or personal fields such as age, race, religion, marital status, or family responsibilities on application forms. Those details are not a professional standard in Singapore hiring. Put skills, entity experience, systems, and qualifications instead.
Where should I look first if I am a graduate who wants audit or tax?
Use MyCareersFuture, the accounting and finance industry filter on JobVacancySG, and firm career pages. Graduate programmes and internships are still common entry routes. Prepare one academic or internship workpaper you can discuss, and keep the resume to evidence. Read the fresh-graduate guide and practise interview stories before peak campus-recruiting weeks.
How do I move from audit into FP&A without an unofficial “pay cut” story?
Compare fixed monthly salary, working hours, and the first review date, not a rumour about bonuses in either sector. Build FP&A evidence while you are still in practice: a secondment, a data project, or a volunteer forecast for a small entity if confidentiality allows. Target analyst titles that value audit training. Do not invent an industry median to justify a number; use the employer’s band and official MOM context only as context.
Official pages to keep open while you apply
Keep a short list of sources next to your applications. MOM for pass eligibility and FCF. TAFEP for fair hiring. ISCA for CA (Singapore). SkillsFuture and WSG for programmes. MyCareersFuture for advertisements that also satisfy many employers’ advertising duties. JobVacancySG for filtered searches you can save and revisit.
Singapore’s finance market rewards people who can close books, defend a tax position, explain a variance, or write a compliance narrative. It does not reward invented statistics. If a number is not on an official page, say so, and go back to the work.
